Just one week before Romania's National Day and exactly two years after the Centenary of the Great Union, Sibiu is the host of a musical centenary: 100 years since the birth of Uniunea Compozitorilor și Muzicologilor din România (UCMR).

Founded in 1920 and having the great composer George Enescu as president, the Romanian Composers' Society continued to exist under this name until 1948. Since 1948, it has become the Union of Romanian Composers, with the main role of managing the copyright of musical works.

To mark this anniversary, the Sibiu State Philharmonic in partnership with Romanian Cultural Institute and UCMR-ADA, organizes a chamber recital given by the Brașov quartet Gaudeamus.

The four musicians performed a rich concert activity in many cities from Europe and Asia. The members of the quartet trained in master classes in Great Britain with Professor Hugh Maguire and members of the Quartet "Alban Berg", at Salzburg with professor Walter Levin, member of the Quartet "La Salle" and at London with the members of the Quartet "Amadeus". In 1997 and 1998 "Gaudeamus" Quartet wasinvited as a "quartet in residence" to perform at the Jubilee Hall in Aldeburgh, UK.

For the concert in Sibiu, the program was composed entirely of works by Romanian composers, thus crowning a celebration of current Romanian music ....

The concert will be broadcast online on theFacebook page, theYoutube channel and the Sibiu State Philharmonic application, on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020, starting with7 p.m.

The concert of the Gaudeamus quartet is performed with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute.
