Concert at the Radio Hall, dedicated to George Stephănescu and the centenary of the Bucharest National Opera

Monday, 7 June 2021 , ora 11.11

In 1921 the Romanian Opera House (today the Bucharest National Opera) was officially established, after years in which the company that represented opera and operetta titles functioned under the tutelage of the National Theatre. The opening event was the Lohengrin premiere (Wagner), under the baton of George Enescu himself. In 2021, the Opera celebrates its centenary, a reason to pay homage to the person to whom much of the effort of founding the institution is due: composer and conductor George Stephănescu (1843-1925), whose bust is placed in front of the Bucharest National Opera House.

On Wednesday, June 9th, at 7PM, the second symphonic concert with an audience given at the Radio Hall by the Radio Chamber Orchestra will be entirely dedicated to George Stephănescu, whose valuable works are very little known to the general public. Under the title "The Story of the First Symphony", you will listen to three of his creations: Symphony in A major - the first symphony in the history of Romanian music, the National Overture and Octet in G major for strings and winds.

The event is realized in partnership with the D'a Camera Cultural Association, as part of the Cultural Project "The Story of the First Symphony", a project co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).

The concert will take place under the baton of TIBERIU SOARE. As a conductor of the Bucharest National Opera House and principal conductor of the Sibiu Philharmonic, TIBERIU SOARE has been conducting his artistic activity since 1999. Between 2012-2015 he was chief conductor of the Radio Romania Choirs and Orchestras, gathering numerous victories with these ensembles not only on the stage of the Radio Hall, but also in outdoor events or international tours.

In September 2010, Tiberiu Soare was invited to conduct his first concert at the desk of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, alongside famous soprano Angela Gheorghiu. Other important concerts followed, conducted on the world's greatest stages with Angela Gheorghiu: 2013 - Royal Festival Hall in London, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague (Smetana Hall), Munich (Munich Philharmonic), and Paris ( Royal Opera - Palace of Versailles). In 2014, in Germany, he conducted the Hof Symphoniker Orchester in an opera gala, within an annual festival - Schlossfestspiele (Festival at the Castle), an event followed in the same year by concerts at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées - Paris, Musikverein Graz - Austria, Concertgebouw Hall - Amsterdam and Baden-Baden (Festspielhaus) - Germany.

The concert will be broadcast live - on all Radio Romania Cultural and Radio Romania Muzical frequencies - live streaming on Internet, on the websites www.radioromaniacultural.ro and www.romania-muzical.ro, and on the Facebook pages of Radio Romania Muzical Choirs and Orchestras.
