Fedora, LIVE at Scala, with: Sonya Yoncheva, Roberta Alagna and George Petean

Wednesday, 19 October 2022 , ora 10.04

Before the traditional season opening on December 7th, Opera Night invites you to another scaliger show this Saturday at 20:55! Live from Scala Theatre in Milano: "Fedora"! - taking inspiration (just like Puccini's "Tosca") from a play written by Victorien Sardou, which veristic composer Umberto Giordano had seen starring the great treagedy actress, Sarah Bernardt. "Fedora" was suggested by the Dominique Meyer administration in 2020, to be directed by Mario Martone, third time holder of the Giordano title at Scala. Alongside a cast in which Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva (Fedora) as well as Romanian baritone George Petean (De Siriex) are both making their debut. Roberto Alagna (Loris Ipanov) as well - as far as I know...

Always put on stage with great success at Scala by famous personalities such as: Maria Caniglia (Victor de Sabata as conductor), Maria Callas and Franco Corelli (Gianandrea Gavazzeni as conductor), Mirella Freni, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras (most recent revival in 2004), "Fedora" is the most intense work of Giordano's trilogy, the other two being "Andreea Chenier" and "Siberia". It is impassioned, violent and fraught with musical moments of the most refined inspiration - among which I shall mention the famous arias: Amor ti vieta and Mia madre - which will be sung by Roberto Alagna, O grande Occhi lucenti and Fedora's death scene - in which Sonya Yoncheva will have to show her true talent and La Donna russa - in which we will be proud to see George Petean on Scala Theatre's stage...
