Harmonies of Hope - December 10th, 2022

Thursday, 15 December 2022 , ora 10.21

Harmonies of Hope was the title of the extraordinary concert performed by the Doctors' Orchestra "Dr. Ermil Nichifor" in support of cancer patients, an event hosted by the Bucharest National Opera. Suggestively titled "Harmonies of Hope", the December 10th concert aimed to draw the attention of civil society and healthcare companies to the quality of life of cancer patients, whose suffering continues beyond the hospital room and requires the same care and attention.

Organized with the support of the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Culture and the National Society of Medical Oncology in Romania, the introductory speech was given by the Minister of Culture Lucian Romașcanu:

I emphasize the fact that you are doubly generous as doctors, once because you have dedicated your life, days and nights to save people, and here are also times when, beyond the medical act, you also do acts of generosity in support of those in need.

The Harmonies of Hope concert was held under the High Patronage of Klaus Iohannis, the President of Romania, to mark the adoption of the law on the National Plan to Prevent and Combat Cancer in Romania.

On this occasion, associate professor Dr. Diana Păun - presidential advisor at the Department of Public Health within the Presidential Administration awarded, on behalf of President Klaus Iohannis, the High Patronage distinction for the Extraordinary Concert of the Doctors' Orchestra "Harmonies of Hope":

I have consistently expressed my full appreciation and consideration for the constant effort and professionalism you demonstrate day in and day out in the noble profession you hold. You also find the energy to cultivate your love of music. Medicine and music have passion in common, without which neither can be truly practiced. Medicine is the art of healing, of showing empathy, of giving confidence to the suffering.

What this distinction means for the "heart" of the ensemble - concertmaster Dr. MirceaPenescu, we found out during the break of the concert:

It means a lot for the orchestra of doctors, it means, first of all, the fact that everything we have been doing for years and years, sometimes with quite great efforts, has not gone unnoticed. It means that what we want to convey as a message, that harmony and hope can be conveyed through music and even success in medicine depends on the mood of the patients means that all these, let's say, symbolic elements of our work have not gone unnoticed and we are most honored by the recognition from the highest institution in the state, from the President, that what we do is positive for society.

The tenor Daniel Magdal and the special guest Sir Willard White honored this concert with their presence - a bass-baritone with an impressive career spanning no less than 4 decades on the great lyrical stages of the world.

On December 10, the Doctor's Orchestra "Dr. ErmilNichifor" had two conductors at the lectern: Iosif Ion Prunner and Daniel Jinga, the latter leading the Romanian National Choir (made up of members of the National Opera Choir), an ensemble that made its the debut on this occasion supporting the choral parts and a micro-recital of Romanian carols.

The Dr. "Ermil Nichifor" Orchestra of Doctors is made up of some of the best medical professionals in Romania. Some of the members are part of both the European Orchestra of Doctors and the World Orchestra of Doctors.

The musicians - doctors created a special evening, full of emotion and hope, as was the last intervention of the surgeon Remus Nica - the member of the ensemble:

How full the hall is of doctors who have given their lives to treat and save cancer patients. My message to society, to the participants in life is: Love people. The energy of love is the only solution we have.
