Anton Bruckner’s numberless symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Christian Thielemann

Thursday, 29 February 2024 , ora 10.47

This Friday evening, the 1st of March 2024, 21:00, Radio România Muzical puts forward a more uncommon concert, where the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner's least known symphonies under the baton of Christian Thielemann. These have not been officially counted as far as his compositions are concerned, along with other 9 works of this kind, Bruckner's nine most-known symphonies.

We'll begin by listening to "Symphony in F minor", his first attempt at symphonies, described as "school work" by Bruckner himself, which however delights us through its verve and romantic warmth. Then, we'll proceed with the symphony "Nullte" meaning No. 0.

Performed between Symphony No. 1 and Symphony No. 2 as a moment of creation, "Nullte" in D minor was abandoned by the composer, and he even stated this right on the first page of the composition. But we are fascinated by the way in which, while being performed, the symphony shapes the unmistakable personal style of the one that is today the 'pillar' of the symphonic repertoire used in concerts. Bruckner was also called The Maestro of Saint Florian because he spent his childhood at the Saint Florian Abbey near Linz, one of the oldest abbeys in the world that is still open today.

And the conductor Christian Thielemann, a famous performer of Anton Bruckner's creations, will be our guide on the land of musical discoveries.
