Interview with soprano Aida Pascu (II)

Thursday, 11 April 2024 , ora 12.16

The "Cotroceni" National Museum will present on Thursday, the 18th of April 2024, an event-recital held by soprano Aida Pascu, winner of the "Young performer of 2024" title at "International Classical Music Awards", ICMA. More about the works which comprise the musical programme, but also about the collaboration with pianist Gabriel Gîțan, we find out from the interview with the artist and our colleague, Sarah Natsis:

On the 18th of April, the public of Bucharest will be able to see you at the "Cotroceni" National Museum, in an event-recital, based on the theme 'Love Dream'. What are the works that comprise the musical programme?

'Vocalise' by Maurice Ravel, 'Trois melodies op. 4' by George Enescu, 'The Elegy' by Jules Massenet, 'Kdyzmnestaramatka' by Antonin Dvorak, 'Standchen' by Franz Schubert, a pop hit, Joseph Haydn's lied 'Fidelity', the chamber music 'In solitaria stanza' by Giuseppe Verdi and 'Storia la d'amore' by Giacomo Puccini. Lastly, the suit 'Canciones ClásicasEspañolas' by Fernando Obradors, and Gabriel Gîțan will perform 'Intermezzo 118 no. 2' by Johannes Brahms.

As you've said, your stage partner will be pianist Gabriel Gîțan, an artist with whom you've collaborated in the past. What do you consider to be the common element which characterises you as artists and which helps you two function as a team?

I think it is the seriousness and a certain common energy which somehow binds us as far as music in concerned. I'm not exactly sure what makes our dynamic to be this good, but it is certain that he is a pianist whom I respect.

How would you describe the atmosphere that you would like to create for the audience during the recital?

We've assembled the repertoire so that it resembles our interior tastes and feelings. Ideally it would be a romantic one, as the title 'Dream Love' suggests, a bit melancholic, but which would not lack of intense moments, such as some songs by Obradors, with their Spanish inflections, full of life.
