Interview with Dorin Ioniță, the initiator of the “Magic Winter” Project
On Saturday, December 7th, 2024, the 14th edition of the "Magic Winter" Concert, proposed by the Royal Camerata Orchestra and conductor Constantin Grigore, will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum.
Mr. Dorin Ioniță, the 14th edition of the "Magic Winter" concert takes place on Saturday. I would like to start with a foray into these almost 14 years since you initiated the "Magic Summer" Festival and the "Magic Winter" Project. In the beginning, you set out to bring young musicians on stage to present the most beautiful works of classical music to the public. How have you achieved this over time?
With efforts, with involvement, with the desire to do, with hope for a future - the young people are our future - and, in the same time, with the desire to create a road, a path for young artists in Romania.
How did the public receive these concerts and how do you think they influenced the destiny of the young musicians?
I will start with the second part of the question, the part about destiny. I have the conviction and it is not just a conviction, this can actually be demonstrated that many young people have found their way in life by going through these experiences acquired over time. We have young people in many foreign orchestras in Europe, young musicians who have passed through here. But also in the Romanian orchestras, in the Radio Orchestras and in that of the Philharmonic, and in the Opera one- there are those young people from 14 years ago. And now, if you please, even the young artists of that time who have already reached maturity are alongside us, with the new generations of musicians, in musical life.
You ask me about the audience. Some viewed these events with skepticism perhaps, at first, or with reserve. But, now, at least at the "Magic Winter" Concerts in recent years, the house was full. And here lies the evolution of the "Magic Summer" Festival, where the public also embraced this idea, something that can be argued by the presence of the public in the hall.
The guests of this edition are old friends of this project, the musicians from the Romanian Royal Chamber and the conductor Constantin Grigore. I would ask you to tell us about the program chosen by the musicians.
"Magic Winter" is a concept in which the music is full of hope and joy. The holidays are approaching, we feel the need to relax, to be in a good jolly mood, to start a new year with a lot of enthusiasm and with a lot of effort. This is where we start the program, and I would not like to reveal the works that will be performed, but I can tell you that the whole program exudes joy, hope, especially since, now, we are going through a rather difficult period and we need positive energy to go ahead.
