Interview with mezzo-soprano Alexandra Dumitrache, winner of the International Competition "Remember Enescu"
You won the Grand Prize at the 22nd edition of the International Competition "Remember Enescu." What does this achievement mean to you?
For me, it represented an important recognition of my artistic journey so far, as it somehow confirmed the work and passion I dedicate every day to study and performance. It was a strong motivation to move forward and continue working toward my dream.
The "Remember Enescu" Competition brings together talented young artists from various parts of the world every year. How did you find the level of this edition, and what impressed you the most about the other participants?
The level of this edition was undoubtedly very high. I think what impressed me the most was the maturity with which they approached each aria and lied in their interpretations - especially since some of them were quite young. I was deeply impressed by the emotional involvement and artistic maturity they showed on stage.
At the laureates' gala recital, organised by the Romanian Embassy in France, you also includednGeorge Enescu's lied Du conflit en douleur. How did you choose this piece, and what does it mean to you?
Over time, I've had several of George Enescu's works in my repertoire, but among all his lieder, I felt that this one resonated with me the most. I wanted my interpretation to convey that sincere, inner state that the composer sought to evoke. I had the opportunity to perform it in the special setting of the Romanian Embassy in France, which made the experience even more emotional and meaningful.
Beyond the actual award, what other opportunities has this victory brought you?
One of the opportunities was precisely this recital at the Paris Embassy. It was an extraordinary opportunity for me and an experience I will not forget anytime soon. All these events that the Remember Enescu Foundation promotes and organizes for us are truly valuable.
Now, after this important achievement, what projects or artistic directions are you planning for the near future?
I'm preparing an opera role for an audition. I also have my eye on an international competition, and at the same time, I'm trying to focus on finishing my studies and writing my bachelor's thesis. I'm trying to balance both and stay focused on both directions.
