Interview with violinist Irina Muresanu

Thursday, 26 May 2022 , ora 10.31

Mrs Irina Muresanu, you participate at the 10th edition of SoNoRoConac, edition named "La Grande Bellezza". What does this festival mean to you?

First of all, a reunion with SoNoRo Festival and the musical director, Răzvan Popovici, with whom I collaborated for the first time last year in November.

During this edition of the festival, you will perform together with the violist Răzvan Popopovici
and the pianist Cristiana Mihart. On what occasion did you collaborate with the two musicians before?

As I said, it is a reunion with Răzvan Popopovici and... a first-time meeting with Cristina, with whom I can't wait to collaborate. We have a very beautiful schedule -pieces for violin, viola and piano. The Trio by Beethoven op. 11 and Five Songs, originally for two violins, in the violin and viola version by Dimitri Shostakovich. Also, the schedule includes various solo violin pieces; I will interpret George Enescu's Four Areas in Romanian traditional style - the ones that were rediscovered and edited in 2006 and which I perform as often as I can so that they could be as well-known as Enescu's other works, such as Sonata III for violin and piano.

We look forward to meet the public! The events take place in some unique locations; for example, the Cetate Cultural Port, the "George Stephănescu" Memorial House in Arefu commune and also a first time for me because I've never been to Brăila, we will perform at the "Maria Filotti" Theatre in Brăila, where adds a concert at the Art Museum in Râmnicu Vâlcea - a place where I performed during my student days.

How did the rehearsals go?

I met with Răzvan one month ago, when I was in Bucharest for a concert at "DinuLipatti" House. We will see each other tomorrow. In fact, between these SoNoRoConac concerts we will insert another small concert with Mozart's Concert Symphony at the "Oltenia" Philharmonic in Craiova. So, we'll start rehearsals tomorrow. It will be an intense week, as you can imagine, with a lot of trips, but with a lot of music and, hopefully, with a big audience.
