On the 3^rd of November 2023, the violinist AlexandruTomescu will perform at Sala Radio as part of an event dedicated to Radio România's 95th anniversary. We learn details about the concert from him in a conversation with Sarah Natsis:

Mr. AlexandruTomescu, you are participating in the concert given by the National Radio Orchestra on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the foundation of Radio România. First of all, I would like you to tell us what this event and Radio România means to you?

I am very happy to participate in such an important celebration of Radio România. For me Radio România is a second home. I have been the soloist of the Radio orchestras for more than 20 years and I grew up there, I formed as an artist together with my colleagues from all the ensembles and with the music-loving public. I am very happy that we are celebrating this important moment through music. Music is at home, anytime is a festive moment.

My part of the programme is the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is one of the great works of the violin repertoire, a classical work and much loved by music lovers. I haven't played it for many years on the Radio stage, I'm revisiting it now - at a mature age - and I can't wait to share what I've discovered in the meantime in this wonderful score.

As you have said, you have been a concert soloist with the Radio orchestras since 2002. How would you describe your personal experience with the orchestra during all these years?

A very fruitful, very intense, very diverse experience. I believe that the Radio musical groups, the orchestras, have fully assumed this role of shaping the tastes of the public in terms of the repertoire presented. We have played many 20th century pieces that no other philharmonic in the country had the courage to present, which have always been very successful. So, a cultural institution such as Radio has a very clear mission, namely to create, shape and feed the tastes of the public, including in terms of cultural choice. I have participated in hundreds of concerts, many tours, all kinds of other events and I am very happy to be part of this beautiful history of Radio.

You said in a previous interview that you feel at home on the Radio Hall stage. Your solo career has taken you to some of the world's most famous stages in many countries. Have you experienced this feeling elsewhere?

"Home is the only one. That's the reason why I'm here in Romania and why I'm the soloist of the Radio Orchestra - because this is "home" for me.
