Interview with conductor Simona Strungaru

Friday, 24 November 2023 , ora 13.31

Gianni Gagliardi is the protagonist of the Big Band Radio concert on Thursday, November 23rd2023.

Mrs. Simona Strungaru, the saxophonist Gianni Gagliardi is returning to Bucharest this Thursday. How would you introduce him to the public?

Gianni Gagliardi is a very interesting saxophonist, with a rich international experience. He is a man who has collaborated with many bands and musicians from all over the world and someone well-known by the Romanian audience. He also won a significantaward at the "Johnny Răducanu" Festival in Brăila a few years ago. He is an artist worthy all the attention because he comes to our concert not only as a performer, but also as a composer.

Thursday's concert takes its title from his debut CD - Nomadic Nature. How would you describe the music on this record and how will the performance unfold?

His music is very diverse, lively and has many sources of inspiration that he has undoubtedly gathered in his travels. As I mentioned, he is a man who has studied on every continent, was part of musical projects everywhere and the music he has envisioned reflects these elements.

The concert will feature Gianni as a soloist, with us accompanying his compositions.

What other concerts is the Big Band preparing for the upcoming period?

We will have a concert on December 7th, with the well-known vocalist Ana Cristina Leonte, who is bringing an original program, with new material for the Big Band, with many pieces being performed for the first time. After that, on December 21st, we will have a Christmas concert, where we will also collaborate with the radio choirs - the Academic Radio Choir, conducted by maestro Ciprian Țuțu and the Radio Children's Choir, instructed by maestro Răzvan Rădos - where we will blend the repertoire of Romanian carols orchestrated for big band and choirs with Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, orchestrated for jazz.
