On Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, the cellist Constantin Borodin and the pianist Daniel Dascălu will give a chamber recital in the Small Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. We learn about the event that takes place within the "Tuesday Night Season" from the cellist Constantin Borodin, who spoke with Sarah Natsis:

Constantin Borodin, to begin with I would ask you to tell us how were the foundations laid for the recital you are going to give at the Romanian Athenaeum?

The foundations were laid following Daniel Dascălu's invitation. And, since we had collaborated a few times in the past, I would say why not do a recital, to lay a foundation for the duo that we want to develop further. And, yes, we start with a recital at theA thenaeum.

You talked about Daniel Dascălu and I would like to ask you, how you would describe him as an artist? And what do you think is the element that helps both of you work in this formula?

Daniel is an extraordinary musician, in every way. I think also the personal part in our relation, we understand each other very well, we resonate as a sense of humor and I think that this mutual understanding also helps us in performance and makes the partners in an ensemble connect much better.

Let's also talk about the musical program. You suggest works byArvo Pärt, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Claude Debussy. Is there a common denominator of this program? What guided you in choosing these parts?

The last three works - Debussy, Brahms and Schumann - we are very fond of, both me and Daniel. At the same time, we said to bring a newer breath, a piece less performed in Romania, written 20-30 years ago by Arvo Pärt, thus further promoting chamber music and modern, newer music. And, why not, for the people in Bucharest it's a chance to discover something new.
