Interview with Sebastian Burneci

Monday, 25 November 2024 , ora 10.08

The Bucharest Jazz Club, the jazz season at the Goethe Institute, continues on Friday, November 22nd, with a new concert featuring trumpet player Sebastian Burneci. The event is called The Ballad Book, and we will learn more about it from Sebastian Burneci, who gave an interview to our colleague Viorel Grecu.

The Ballad Book is a title which already tells a lot. What else can you reveal about the repertoire you have prepared for us? Will you stick to well-known themes, or will there be surprises as well?

We are trying to create a very special atmosphere for this Bucharest Jazz Club, which we envisioned as an event concept. That means there will be pre-recorded materials, live concerts-the concert, which will certainly be the highlight of the evening-and many other elements that define this type of atmosphere, all meant to provide people with an even more special and complex experience. As far as the repertoire is concerned, we selected what we believe to be the most beautiful, captivating, and enjoyable ballads in terms of jazz standards. And speaking of surprises, starting with this edition, we plan to feature a record presentation at each Bucharest Jazz Club event, and this time it will be Irina Sârbu's album, At The End of July. Irina Sârbu will be our guest, performing the title track of the album.

I understand that there will also be a listening session of the album, some kind of after-party.

Yes. The event starts at 19.00, when guests are to be welcomed with a glass of wine from Gramofon Wine. The actual concert begins at 19.30 and will last 70 minutes, followed by the album presentation. The album will be played in the lobby of the Goethe Pavilion, and we will socialize with the guests and enjoy some quality time together.

Who are the musicians you will be performing with? This time it is a quartet. If you could introduce them to us, they are artists of the new generation.

We have Johnny Bica on piano, just like in the first edition when we performed The Art of Duo. The other musicians are members of my quintet. About a year ago, I put together a jazz quintet with which I have already performed in several very interesting contexts. I am talking about drummer Andrei Paraschiv and bassist Alex Mike.
